Day 216

I just got finish doing Rockin' Body Shaun T's Dance Party remix (??). (How is it that I could spend 40-plus minutes doing something and forget the name of it almost immediately after I walk away from it LOL). I got a little distracted the beginning but was able to get more focused about 10 minutes into it LOL.

I have to say this is becoming fun. today was fun. yesterday was fun(ish) but hard, I woke up really sore, but today was really really fun.

It took me a hot minute to realize that I have not been doing my measurements and I think it's because I wasn't so focused on trying to lose weight. Like, I was just trying to exercise everyday and that was a challenge at times (I'm a mental toddler, remember?). When I started this new Rockin Body program I did take my measurements and so when I'm finished with it I will post my before and after measurements, for the program.

I'm realizing that although my goal was to exercise 365 days, new goals have developed and the 365 day thing... it's just a number that's going to continue to grow (uh oh, i feel my internal toddler stirring). (To self) I'm just kidding nope, no obligation after 365, don't have to do anything...;-)
I would really like to be down to my goal weight at 130ish by the time I reach 40 which gives me a couple of years. That's 110 lbs. Oye. One day at a time, one pound at a time, one choice at a time.

I can do alp things in Christ who gives me strength.

Day 214 + 215

If you had to guess how old I was based off of some of the decisions I make, you would think that I was a toddler. I don't know why, but even as an adult I have to fight the urge to not do the opposite of whatever somebody else asks of me. I guess to be fair (to myself) that really only has to do with like a diet and exercise. And to be super fair (to everybody else) I really only do this with me. It's not even a stubborn thing, it's more like if I feel obligated to do something, like forcing myself, that's usually when I don't do it.

Case in point, yesterday's exercise.

The day before yesterday I kind of left things off like, "oh, we're just going to pick up off where we left off on Friday and we're going to continue to do the exercise videos," right? Well, yesterday rolls around and I'm like, "oh hell no," and I don't even know why. I had a busy day planned, but who doesn't? But I bet it has more to do with the fact that I left myself feeling obligated to do it LOL.

Yesterday I did not do the Rockin' Body series, but I did my beloved side lunge knee ups instead.

However when I woke up this morning, I kicked myself and was like, "what are you doing man??" I knew that I was going to have a super hectic busy day again and could have easily talked myself out of it AGAIN, but when I don't follow through with these types of things, it really only hurts me. Especially because I have this goal. I guess having this goal is what is really making me feel obligated, but I'm just gonna have to suck this up and just do it. I am NOT a toddler lol.

So, to make up for yesterday, I decided to do yesterday's workout (Party Express and Hard-core Abs) AND today's workout (Rock It Out) AND i was able to do it with my heart rate monitor also, which I guess give me that added motivation. Yaay!  I heart my HRM! My average heart rate was 138 and my maximum was 156. I did a total of 83 minutes and burned 537 calories (i even paused in between all the videos).

At the end of the day, I am exhausted but happy that I did this. Let this be a lesson to My Future Self: procrastination gets me nothing but a double workout. Lol

One day at a time. One choice at a time.

I can do all things in Christ who gives me strength.

Day 76

Thursday, February 18, 2016

Day 49

Last night was awful. Little Brother was up every 2 hours throwing up until 7am. I'm so tired but got on the elliptical for 43 mins and watched another episode of Pretty Little Liars.

I dug my trusty heart rate monitor up and wore it tonight for kicks n giggles. Totally different info than what my elliptical AND Fitbit gives me. Really disappointing. Totally figures. Recording data for now until I know what to do with the numbers (gotta dig out my old books with the equations).

Good night.

One day at a time. One choice at a time.

Day 281 (day 1 / week 40)

I just finished level 1 of the 30 Day Shred. I am well on my way to being shredded. (lol I crack myself up).

I am honestly kind of surprised that I dusted off that exercise DVD and actually did it (36 minutes including my own extended cool down). My legs are buzzing right now. I am also kind of surprised that Jillian didn't bug me this go around either. I must be growing as a person or something like that, to not let juvenile things bother me like they did before. OR maybe she's growing as a person, and she just learned not to bug me this go round. This is serious stuff. You can't commit to an exercise plan *cough* DVD and be bugged by your trainer. I say this knowing fully well that it's a DVD, and... and well if you didn't get this whole spew, just forget it. It's one of those days and I'm in one of those moods. I heart Jillian. She is good peepz. I really appreciate how committed she is. She knows this is serious stuff (;)). I don't think she bugs me anymore. Until level 2, when she says something about the bathing suit thing (?). lol

I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I got a new HRM. It was completely unexpected, and my hubby's idea. We were at Kohl's last weekend with the in-laws and he found a New Balance N2 HRM on clearance for $40. It has all of the features I am looking for (Chronology, continuous HR, calories burn as modifiable workout zones). It also has a lock button, so when I am doing push ups, I don't accidentally stop my HRM from recording. It has a different chest strap, and it feels more comfortable for the most part. Today is the first day taht I have taken it for a test spin. It said that in the 36 minutes that I did the 30DS, lvl 1, I burned 261 calories. I can't seem to find anything in any of my previous blogs telling me how many calories I burned doing this back in June (the last time I did the 30DS).

I was going to wait to start the 30 DS, but I keep thinking about a challenge that was set out on the 30DS group on sparkspeople, to do it...but it was the schedule that got me. This is what my plan is, but I really don't know how it's going to happen on work days. I will probably have to make some adjustments, but am going to really give it a college try to do at least one of the 3 levels on my work days:

OK here your challenge...IF YOU DARE.

For beginners or for those who think this is a bit much...then follow the 30DS the way it was intended. You do Level 1 for 10 days, move onto Level 2 for 10 days and then do Level 3 for the last 10 days.

JUST SO YOU ALL KNOW...I'LL BE TAKING THE 30DS CHALLENGE ALONG WITH MY CURRENT PROGRAM!!! MU HA HA HA HA...I'm anxious to see how this goes.

I think doing it this way will keep me from getting bored. I want to see if I am up to it, so I am gonna try! Today is my "day 1" so I did level 1. Tomorrow level 2 and so forth.

Speaking of commitments, I made a new/old commitment today, which is killing me, which tells me that I am SOOO needing to do this. A spark-friend, posted a blog about a 100 day challenge to not eat sugar. I decided to join the challenge with her. I already had a cookie today, so tomorrow is my official start day, which will make Jan 18 my last day of the challenge. It's one day AFTER my son's 3rd birthday, and I was bummed to think that I am not going to have cake with him, but there are worse things. He could have a really fat/miserable mommy on his birthday stuffing her face with cake, or a happy/fit/healthy mommy who will be happy to pass up the slice. Right now I feel like the first mommy. I know that will pass, and I'm not miserable, but I miss sugar. Already. (this is how I know I have a problem again lol).

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what this month brings. Halloween too!! Yikes! What a scary (no pun intended--well maybe just a little) time to quit sugar! I can totally do this. Both of the challenges! I'm not trying to convince ya'll that I can, but maybe myself a little. I know I can do all things in Christ who gives me the strength to do it though, so I'm set and confident. I can TOTALLY do this. Both of them.

Bye, bye sugar!
Welcome back Jillian!

lol

Tomorrow I have to take Pebbles to get spayed... 8am, almost 1.5 hours away in Pahrump, NV (where the shelter's headquarters are that we got Pebbles from). Please pray for my son, that he will know enough to leave her alone during this time, so she doesn't feel tempted to play and rip her stitches (and for patience for me, to deal with them both). A few years ago my mom's old bf had a dog that had just gotten spayed, and I guess she went and played after she got home, played too hard and her stitches ripped open, and her insides came out. He shot her there on the spot because there was nothing he could do for her. I know this wont happen to Pebbles, but I just really hope my toddler monkey boy leaves her alone and understands us enough to know this is REALLY important to let her heal.

Hope you guys have a great day! Make it count!

I can do this. I am a star.

Day 269 (day 3 / week 38)

Today was a fun day. I went to the Walk From Obesity and saw two of my coworkers there and the director of our unit. It was nice to see someone there that I knew who didn't mind walking around--I love my hubby but he doesn't care for walking the way I do. . I also got to meet Dr Teng, whom I hear a lot about, but have never met before. We walked 2 laps, which I think was about 1.5 miles and then we walked around the activities part of it. We were there for 3 hours, but I only had my HRM running for 2 (the physical part until we slowed down to browse) burning 907 minutes.

The mayor of our city, Oscar Goodman, was there too. He is the one in the suit. I got a great picture of his back lol.

There was another event going on at the same time, and I think it was a Shred-It party. You could take your documents that needed to be shredded here and have it shredded for free. There was also a farmers market and I bought 6 herb plants: mother of thyme, oregano, italian parsley, golden lemon parsley, purple basil and italian basil and a planter and soil for 4 of them all for $20. We bought some homemade olive and oregano hummus and a sampler of 4 different olive oils and barrel-aged heirloom balsamic vinegar (SO delicious!). We also bought some fresh baked bread by a local baker (Bon Bakery) here as well, fetta batard and multigrain batard. They go very well with the oils and balsamic vinegar that we got.

There was a big jump house dinosaur there that The Monkey Boy and my MIL went in. He wasn't too sure about it at first, but when it was time to get out because he seemed so frightened, he didn't want to leave and had a meltdown when we did (Typical).

See? Exercise can be fun! You can easily trick yourself into exercising by hitting a farmers market and just walking all over the place with family and friends. You wont even know you're exercising because you are distracting yourself with conversation and a good time.

Be back tomorrow after I finished making it count. Hope you are having a great weekend!

I can do this. I am a star.

Day 253 (day 1 / week 37)

Yesterday (9/10) was very busy. I was trying to research doctors for our PCP and then I found some paperwork that I realized was due today (9/11) so I spent the end of my day reading and taking "tests."

Luckily, I was able to exercise before any of this happened. I did my very first route, 2.08 miles, and including the cool down, I was out for about 46 minutes. My HRM is really frustrating me now. I think that wearing it to work the other day killed the battery...again. That being said I hope my hubby will let me buy the Polar F11 that I decided to buy. Polar was my first HRM. It lasted for quite a few years without ever having to change the battery (like 4-5) in fact, I still haven't changed the battery in it...but I can't find the strap, so I can't tell if it's working or accurate. The watch part still works though lol.

Ok the Monkey Boy woke me up this morning, so I am dragging his little butt out with me whether he likes it or not. Hopefully he doesn't scream bloody murder when we are out. I could only imagine what the neighbors would think.

I have to go to work today to drop off this paperwork, so I will blog during the Monkey Boy's nap. Pray with me that he takes a nap lol.

Make today count!

I can do this. I am a star.

Day 251 (day 6 / week 36)

Gotta make this quick because I have to leave for work now.

Yesterday I wore my HRM to work. I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but I changed the batteries, and so it's giving me better numbers. It doesnt drop to the 70's or 120 from the 140s anymore.

The first time I wore my HRM to work, this is what I got:
13 hours, 1773 calories

This time:
12:40 hours, 2426 calories.

Big difference, and I wasn't even as busy yesterday as I was the first time I did it (kind of a cushy day until the end). I am glad I did it again (wore my HRM to work), so that I can adjust how much I am eating on sparkpeople. I'm sure I wasn't eating enough.

I also took the stairs again yesterday, which I don't think would affect the calorie burn 700 calories (wouldn't that be nice, to walk stairs for less than 5 minutes and burn 700+ calories? lol).
I decided to do my own Quickfire Challenges again, and make the stairs, going down, count by doing knee lifts on each step. My quads were burning by the time I got to teh bottom.

Ok gotta go! Off tomorrow.

Have a good day! Make it count.

I can do this. I am a star.

Day 241 (day 3 / week 35)

I've been doing a lot of thinking since I posed the question, "did I blow it?" and you guys really helped me out with your responses. All in all I decided that I was going to count it, but I started thinking about the why, as to why I would count it. I came to these conclusions that gave me the mental closure that my brain needed, when I continue to think about things, long after I thought I had resolved them (lol).

1) You guys are right, I don't have a typical desk job. I work 12 hour shifts and more than 1/2 of that (6 hours) I am walking around, pushing pulling and using my large muscle groups (legs) for support so that I don't hurt my back. I know I am getting a workout because sometimes I feel winded after a transfer. The day before yesterday was, in my opinion, more of a physical day than I usually do have at work.

2) When I wasn't working, I was willing to substitute exercises and would count that as exercise done. I would do heavy cleaning, wear my HRM, turn it on, and count that. I would also mow the lawn and count that. I dance with The Monkey Boy and even count that. Why is that any different than substituting a physically demanding workday?

3) I keep saying that I need to listen to my body, and so why is a workday any different than a non workday? I was physically exhausted when I got home. That tells me that my body worked hard that day. I don't know if it was because I was on my 4th day and I didn't get 8 hours of sleep the night before (very well could have been) but I was also sore the next day, that to me, is my body telling me that I worked out, whether I consider it a workout or not.

Thank you for all of your insights on this. I really did want to see how someone else viewed it, because, well, I am biased. It's my life and my resolution, and I know I tend to be hard on myself as some of you have mentioned *cough Loree* *cough Erin*. (I'm just teasing you guys, ((Hugs))) :).

Today I got out kind of late today (8am), and walked for 4.15 miles in an hour an 15 minutes, and cooled down for about 10 minutes (85 minutes). I am very excited because yesterday was my very first payday so I am going to go buy a new HRM. Mine is just....done. I don't really know why it gives me wonky readings but today was my last straw with it. It was 92-96F when I walked and the last time I did this, I burned about 1500 calories in the same amount of time and my HR was well over 135 during the bulk of the time. This time my HRM said my HR was 82. And then 112. At teh very end of my walk, it jumped to 147 so I don't know what's up with it. I also don't like the fact that I can't adjust my new weight on my HRM--I burn calories differently at 190 than I did at 215, when I originally programed it. So this is my reward to myself, for my first paycheck. I want to get some more hand weights too, because The Monkey Boy peeled off the coating off of one of mine. lol (silly kid). The other thing I want to do for myself is get a new hair cut. I am also very excited about this :).

BTW I woke up this morning and the swelling went down completely. My toe hurts a little, but nothing like it did last night. *whew*

Sorry for the long post! Hope you all have a great weekend! Make it count! Anything goes!

I can do this. I am a star.

Day 233 (day 2 / week 34)

Ooooooooohhh! I'm in trouble! My husband is so mad at me! Maybe not mad (well, maybe a little) but probably more disappointed and annoyed. I felt like I needed to go put myself in time out...lol

I went and did my thing this morning...got up early, set out around 6:30 and planned to walk for an hour. It turns out I really left at 6:40, got lost, and only walked for 4 miles. When I was about 1.5 miles away, I looked at my watch and saw that it was 7:30 and should be walking up to the house. I was easily 20 minutes away! I race walked faster than Hal ever could have dreamed to. I race walked so fast, that I ended up jogging...and stayed jogging. I jogged down the street, into the park, across the lawn, into a school (probably going to get in trouble for that too lol) said hi to some teacher, while jogging, through the bars separating the neighborhood from the school (that I had a very hard time fitting through when I moved here in April) and down my street toward the house. My HR got up to 170! I made it back on time to see him glaring at me from the driveway telling me he is going to be late. So busted! I did that 1.5 miles in 10 minutes though! Woo hoo, but *spank spank* for making my hubby late.

The best part of this, was that I found my grove...the grove where I was able to correlate my breathing with my running and my legs, ankles and feet didn't hurt. At all. The only pain I had was a cramping in my stomach from running too much--remember those cramps from childhood when you would run so much you would split your side? When you would stop running for a moment just to make the cramping stop, and start running again? That was me. Seven years old all over again, but in the body of an overweight 30-something year old lol. I love life.

It was really neat waking up, and remembering that I had already called today a great day for exercise. It stuck and I knew it from the moment I woke up. Over an hour of exercise done, before 8am. Sweet!

4 miles, 75 minutes, including cool down, burning 974 calories. It was a good day for exercise. I still have a ton of energy! Maybe tomorrow will be another :).

Make it count! You'll be surprised with what you can accomplish physically, when it isn't about that physical moment. Worrying about my hubby being late, threw all of my physical "can'ts" right out the window.

I can do this. I am a star.

Day 232 (day 1 / week 34)

Today I tried to make up for the lack of exercise I did during work. I was only able to do some random strength exercises, but not really any cardio.

I got up and did my 2 miles in about 45 minutes by myself (warm up and cool down included--368 kcal). I can tell that I haven't done this in about a week, because my shins and calves were sore. I haven't given up on the C25K so I did some of that today also--3 minutes walking, 1 minute jogging. My first mile took me 13 minutes! After that I slowed waaay down, although I still did some random jogging, just not as much, or for as long. I am wearing my new work-converted-exercise-shoes and they feel great! I feel like I have much more of a spring in my step.

After I got home I put in Turbo Jam's Turbo Sculpt, but got bored with being inside. I made it through 11 minutes (116 kcal) before deciding to go wake the Monkey Boy up, put him in his stroller and go for a walk outside. I was prepared for a fight (he hates his stroller lately), so I got everything together before hand so I could just dart out the door, but he didn't put up much of a fight at all. *yaay* In fact, the only thing he whined about was his shoes. He didn't want to wear his flip flops, but instead wanted to wear these:

He's such a funny Monkey :).

We walked for an hour and I think it was about 3.5 miles (724 kcal). It was hot, 90-92F, but could have been worse.

All in all, it was a good day for exercise :).

I don't have to work again until Sunday, so see you again tomorrow for another great day of exercise! I already decided it's going to be a great one! (things are how we make them :)).

Make it count!

I can do this. I am a star.

PS Have I mentioned that my scrubs are extremely large on me? The last time I wore them was 50 lbs ago! woo hoo!

Day 213 (day 3 / week 31)

Today I started my C25K (Couch to 5K) training. I modified it a little bit, because I am not coming straight from the couch, and I have been pre-training for some time for this (I guess I could say that lol) ;). Today I walked/race walked/jogged 4.8 miles in 80 minutes and burned roughly around 1500 calories (my HRM has been very bad and is in time out for a while). I would be in the middle of a jogging spurt, and my HRM would drop to 67 and crawl back up to 116 and stay there. I probably spent more time struggling with my HRM than "training." I started to think today if starting a C25K program is smart, with having to work and all and I feel that if it's meant for me to do, God will make it happen.

So I get home and I am venting to my hubby about my HRM and
are you ready for this....

God must have provision for me to exercise while I am working, because he has just provided me with a...

.
.

treadmill!!!!

*happy dance* *running man* *cabbage patch*

I am SO excited I cried when I sat down to think about the blessing I had just been given! God really DOES approve (not that I had any doubt--confirmation is always nice though :) :))!

Last night we went to a buffet again with my in-laws. I did the same thing as last week when we went, so I didn't break the bank again :) (see, it's not a fluke!). Anyway we were talking about the Monkey Boy and what time I would have to leave our house to get him to his Papa's in the morning, so I could be at work before 7am. We decided that we are just going to have to get a bed over to their house and have the Monkey Boy spend the night on the days that I have to work because when the winter comes, it's going to be too much to bring him out there at 5:45am. We haven't made any set plans yet as we are still feeling it out. We will know more when I start work.

So anyway this morning after I exercised, my MIL called and talked to my hubby for a while, then he said she wanted to talk to me. She said that since they are going to be putting a bed in the Monkey Boy's room at their house, they need to do something with their treadmill and asked me if I had room in my exercise room and if I wanted to use it! The first thing I thought of was that I can't take her treadmill because she uses it everyday (she doesn't need mental tricks to exercise like me, she just does it). She said that the weather is changing and she will be able to get outside to walk soon, so it's not a problem. Wow.

I really didn't know how I was going to get outside before or after work to exercise, becuase it will be dark during both times. I was kind of preparing myself mentally to walk in the dark, but I really didn't want to. I figured I would end up doing a video or something (which I'm getting bored with) so this is just a HUGE blessing. How awesome is that!! I will be able to do my C25K training, in my own home!!! Yaay! AND my MIL's neighbor is getting rid of a new weight bench (no weights) and asked her to ask me if I wanted it! Yaay! He reigns and it pours!

Ok onto the juicy stuff.

In July 2009 I lost 3.2 lbs and 8.75 inches! Yaay! *happy dance* It's not as much as I was losing to start off with, but it's more than last month!

I really feel great and I think that is the best measure of success. I can do so many things that I couldn't before, and I feel stronger and I AM stronger. I am still "obese" but that is temporary and not permanent! I can't believe I am almost into the 180s!!

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but my original start weight is 240 from 2007. Once I hit 190 it will mean that I have lost a total of 50 lbs. Yaay!

Ok well I am off to have fun! Have a great weekend and make it count! If I can do this, so can you! We just gotta take one day at a time :). I am living proof!

I can do this. I am a star.

day 177 (day 2 / week 26)

Today was a major eye-opener. Such a beautiful day as well and I had so much fun! I was so excited to exercise today, because of my toy (my heart rate monitor (HRM)). I wanted to do The Firm again, but the Monkey Boy woke up SUPER early, so I decided to go for a walk instead. I was happy to do that because I wanted to see how many calories I burn on my walk. I figured 600-650 at the most. HUGE eye opener!

I walked 4.8 miles (90 minutes) and did my quickfire challenge on my walk also. It was to hop, skip or jump (jumping jacks) 100 times in 4 or 5 different segments. I skipped! I must have looked so funny skipping down the road, pushing my stroller. It was so much fun though! It also got my heart rate into the high 150's. Man, if you haven't skipped in a long time, do it! It's so much fun, it's easy to do, and it's good exercise! Skip 20 times in a row. I was skipping 50 times in a row and had my son laughing so hard. It was so much fun. The sky was really beautiful also, because of the clouds. Thought I would share with you, what I got to see on my walk (3 different areas in the sky all around me) :).

Such beautiful clouds...

The eye opener...

I got home and logged my exercise. For kicks, I entered my walk into my map tracker, like I always do--it tells me how fast i am going, and how many calories I burned. It said I burned 572 calories (or something close to that). I then went into my HRM to the review section.... get this... it said I burned 1411 calories!!!!! HUGE underestimation from sparkpeople. Yesterday it over estimated what I did, but not by much. I bet this could be one of the reasons why nothing is happening for me. This would mean that I am not eating enough calories--at all.

After my cool down and just walking around the house, my HRM said that I had burned 1852 calories (after 2 hours and 17 minutes).

Regardless of all of this it is very fascinating to see the big difference between the two. Craziness. Really opened my eyes, and makes me feel that much more blessed that I was able to get my hands on this cool heart rate monitor (this is also a huge distraction away from the things that frustrate me).

I can't believe it's Friday already. Off to shower and all that fun stuff. I don't think I am going to do the 30 Day Shred today, because of all of the calories I have already burned, but I will add it to the tracker if I do. It's almost been 30 days, so I don't feel bad for not doing it now. I've proved to myself that I can do it. I CAN do it. I just don't want to anymore. lol! (we'll see how that goes lol).

Have a great weekend! Go skip! I promise it's fun and so much FuN! Yaay for skipping!

I can do this. I am a star.
