day 160 (day 6 / week 23)

Today I remembered why I get up early to exercise. Exercising when the Monkey Boy is awake is fun, but I don't get much accomplished. I procrastinated for almost TWO hours today before doing anything. *sigh* I did level 1 of the 30 day shred. At some point later in the day I want to do level 2 as well, but we will see.

I am going to call today a (non)rest day for 2 reasons:

1) I can't get much done with my 2 year old son crawling through my legs when I am trying to do squats and lunges. When I do push ups he crawls up on my back, and with crunches, he sits on my stomach and bounces.

2) I think I hurt my shoulder muscle as it REALLY hurts to do push ups and the pectoral flies (laying on my back). I really want to take it easy.

Even though I will most likely do the 30 day shred twice today, I am going to call it an easy day, just because I don't want to push it too hard. I have no idea why this part of my shoulder hurts so I don't want to make it worse. It could be all of the plank positions in Level 2. I have been working on my form with those lately and maybe that could be the reason *shrugs*.

I want to walk today with Logan, but it's pretty humid out and might rain (I think yesterday they said it was a 50% chance lol). I don't want to walk for another 80-90 minutes with the chances of getting rained on. Vegas weather is strange anyway, so we'll see how things end up.

Thank you for your responses to yesterday's blog. I know that 1lb a week is good, and that I shouldn't focus on the numbers, but it just stinks when I let myself think about it. I know that I eat the right about of calories (I count fat carb and protein grams also!...well sparkpeople does) and that I am active, so don't I deserve to lose more weight like a lot of other people out there, that aren't doing as much? Erin made a good point though...I'm in this for the long haul, and the faster I take the weight off, the chances of putting them back on again are greater. I don't want that and am pretty positive that it won't happen, just becuase for me, this has been a lifestyle change. Not just about exercise. I feel better now. Thank you guys! ((Hugs))

Make today count!

I can do this. I am a star.

Thank you, I love the color too!

Do you think you might be overexercising?

I have read that if you do to much exercise, and don't take enough calories, your body think it's starving and slows the metabolism, which means it's harder to lose weight.

I had this happen to me once. But when I upped my calories, I began losing weight again.

However, you are steadily losing so you are probably o.k. I think 1-2 lbs. a week is all they want you to lose anyway.

If you lift weights you're supposed to add more calories (protein) to your diet.

That Erin, she's just full of wisdom, isn't she? ROFL!

Oh, I hope you didn't hurt your shoulder! I hurt mine and it took forever to heal. I thought it was completely healed, but a few things I did at the gym this morning gave me pause.

I concur with Nan, you might want to double check how much exercise you're doing in conjunction with your calories in, just to be sure you're keeping things balanced.

Hey, you know what I thought of in the shower this morning (yeah, weird, I know)? You are almost at the six month mark! How cool is that? Did you imagine when you started this journey that so many people would sign on to support you? That has to feel so good.

You are a star!

Hi Melissa, I just looked you up on SP and it was strangely familiar to see you there, but in a great way! I mean, first you're here, now you're there, you're like practically an online fitness guru! You are an incredible success. You are slowly but surely tearing down all my excuses for not making the changes I really truly WANT in my life! All these things I know and seem to have difficulty applying! My biggest revelation...and I almost hate to say it here, out loud, is GOAL SETTING. I think it's key. You're great at goal setting and even adjusting the goal if needed. You don't quite! Your 365 goal is major and you're meeting it, despite some letdowns (dumb scale) and a monkey boy to contend with :) and Vegas heat and..well, need I go on?? Sorry for the long post, but your daily dedication and inspiration is long-post-worthy! Keep shining!

thank you moms. I know that you need to have a deficit of 750 calories for your body to go into "starvation mode" and I don't think that I am. I will re-do the formula and compare it with sparkpeople to see if I need to up my calories again. I went from eating 1200/day to 1300-1400 a few weeks ago, but maybe it's still not enough yet *shrugs*. I always try to eat a minimum of 60g of protein a day (it's a goal I have set on sparkpeople) so that's good. I was also on some pretty nasty meds a few years ago, and they could have messed up my metabolism--I'm thinking it could be a little of all of the above. It's just all disappointing, nonetheless.

Thank you Erin :). I really did not imagine that this is how things would have turned out, and I can't believe I'm almost at the 1/2 point either! A year ago, I don't think I would have ever seen myself here, and I am so glad that I am! Best decision that I have made in a long time!

Thank you so much Loree! You're so funny. I really tried to go all over, online, and tell everyone about my resolution, so that I it would force me to do it (I don't want to look like a fool). I am also on beachbody.com, where I also track my exercise Let me tell you, we are in the same boat with goals. You wouldn't know it, but I am HORRIBLE with goals. I hate the fact that I wont do something, unless I write it down now. I force myself to make goals, or things that I want to get done, just wont happen Sparkpeople really gave me the tools I needed to keep them (and it's a game for me with the sparkpoints too). I am not generally a goal oriented person, but I have been taking it 1 day at a time. I have a list of small goals on sparkpeople (eat 5-6 veggies/day, drink 8 glasses of water a day, take my vitamins, exercise 1x/7days a week etc) that I check off on EVERY DAY. If I don't log into this page and do it, my goals don't get accomplished (including exercise of all things!). Sparkpeople is now my homepage, and it is a huge part of my life now. Great site! Thank you for your kind words. They mean a lot! :)
